Lather's Blather Episode #07: Voice of A Ferret

I'm back!

This podcast is horribly late--both in terms of production time and when it's getting published. So enjoy the goods while I get some show notes cranked out later.

Get it from the Gcast streaming widget on the right-hand side of the screen or direct download that bad boy.

I've got a good handle on a possible hosting solution which I hope to try very soon... until then, enjoy this look at The Venture Brothers.

Always enjoy your podcast, Jeff! Just out of curiousity, what's the problem with hosting? As I also use Gcast and haven't really experieced any big problems, at least that I know of.

Dane, the problem might really be one of my own making. I'm kludging my direct download links just as you are, but I'd prefer a way that would better allow me to see the download stats for individual episodes.

Perhaps it's also because I'd rather have the MP3s uploaded to a space I can control better than GCast, but I think the main reason is that I find Gcast's RSS and XML stuff to be lacking, especially in the ability to add comments to individual episodes as well as the hard limit on episode title length.

Ahhh, I see! Do you ever check feedburner's stats? I have often wondered how accurate they are and would like the ability (and the skills) to check out the "real" stats.

Venture Bros. is really cool and while I certainly picked up on the Johnny Quest/Hardy Boys thing, it never occured to me to toss Scooby Doo into the mix. Beyond the ascot, what do you think is Scooby-inspired? There's certainly no snack-hungry slacker and his wisecracking doggy.

Not in the first season there's not. The second season does feature a Scooby-Doo inspired episode in which the Scooby gang is based off of serial killers, criminals and feminist radicals.

The Shaggy and Scooby-esque characters in that episode are based off the Son of Sam case, for example.

For first season I'd point to the ghost pirates who aren't really ghosts from Ghosts of the Sargasso.

Thanks for turning me on to this one, Jeff. I'd been pretty much avoiding Venture Brothers for years, since I figured it was more of Cartoon Network's snarky, self-involved balderdash. Had I known that the creative forces behind The Tick were involved, I would have gotten hooked immediately.

I didn't think much of pilot for the show, which I saw when it first aired. But then again, I guess it's in the nature of all pilots to totally suck.

Awesome this show is super great. I just finished watching the 3rd to last episode of the 2nd season written by Tick Creator Benjamin Edlund, it was pretty darn funny.

I'm a big fan of the Venture Bros. I love the randomly placed references.

And, yes, I'm a fan of Depeche Mode! They are not gay.

Great podcasts, Jeff!
